What is a Doula?
"There are many modern names for a doula, including labor coach, birth assistant, and birth attendant. The roots of the word itself stems from a Greek word meaning “woman servant or caregiver.” Doulas are trained to provide emotional, physical and educational support for the mother during all parts of the birth, and are considered by many to be indispensable to women wanting to have a positive birth experience.
Besides providing continuous support for the mother during labor, doulas may also provide pre and post natal assistance, as well as a plethora of other roles relating to birth. There are so many things that doulas are, that first it is easier to describe what doulas are not. First and foremost, doulas are not medical health care providers. While doulas will have a familiarity with birth specific medical procedures, their primary focus is of the emotional well being of the mother and baby, and they do not replace midwives or doctors in the birthing room. Doulas are not there to replace the partner. Doulas do not judge or push their personal agendas on births. Doulas are at births for the sole purpose of making your birth the best experience it can be for you!
Why choose a doula to begin with? Studies show that women whose births were attended by doulas were more likely to have spontaneous vaginal births and less likely to have any pain medication, epidurals, negative feelings about childbirth, vacuum or forceps-assisted birth, and cesarean births. In addition, labor time was decreased by an average of 40 minutes and their babies were less likely to have low Apgar scores at birth. Doulas exist not just to make birth more enjoyable for the mother, but also to make births smoother, shorter and less painful."

What is included in the Doula package?
1. Meet n' Greet / Interview:
Once you've made the decision that you'd like to have a doula present for your birth it can be challenging to find the right person for the job. Hollie offers an initial interview at no cost to ensure she is the perfect match for you and your family.
The initial meeting is a great time to ask questions, tell about yourself, and get a feel for how you feel you'll work together.
A contract will be provided for you to take home to review.
Once you decide to hire Hollie as your Birth Doula simply sign and mail the contract and deposit to her to secure her services.
2. Home Visit & Birth Plan Consult:
The Prenatal Visit is typically scheduled between 30 and 32 weeks in your pregnancy.
At that time you'll discuss your expectations and birth plan as well as preferred comfort measures and strategies for labor.
This is your opportunity to define the role of the doula as well as communicate any special wishes or concerns that you have about your birth. The Home Visit & Birth Plan Consult will take place in your home so that you'll have an opportunity to talk in a familiar space for you.
3. Continuous Support When it's Time for Baby:
Once hired as your doula, Hollie is there for you from the moment labor begins.
You'll receive continuous labor support once active labor starts and Hollie will remain in contact with you to determine
the best time for her to arrive at your home/hospital.
This support will continue throughout the entirety of the birthing process.
Whether your choice is a home birth or a hospital birth, doula support is on-going and uninterrupted.
The few hours following birth are essential to ensure bonding for you and your baby so Hollie will stay with you for up to two hours after delivery to help ensure you are well taken care of.
4. Follow-Up Visit
During the first week following the arrival of your baby Hollie will schedule a time to return for a follow-up visit.
This time is a nice opportunity to discuss your birth and chat about your experience with her.
There are usually some questions that surface during this visit and it's a wonderful time to spend together gaining additional support and encouragement from your doula.
5. Placenta Encapsulation
Placenta Encapsulation is available for an additional fee or as a stand-alone service.
There are many benefits of encapsulation that can include increased milk supply, hormone regulation, and increased energy.
The amount of pills will depend on the size of the placenta and the supply will last up to a year if stored properly.
A cord keepsake and placenta print can also be provided if you'd like.
Payment for Services:
A contract will be presented at the initial interview/meeting with outlined terms of birth doula services. The contract is in place to help both parties understand their responsibilities to each other. The Home Visit will be scheduled once a deposit has been made and the remainder of the fee will be due 4 weeks before the expected due date of your baby.
Payment plans are available upon request.
